January 2011 PTA Meeting Minutes

PTA Meeting Minutes
Thursday 20th January 2011

Present: Laurelei Dudley, Heather Curtis, Christabel Holmes, Karen Wilson, Christine Hall, Georgina Kermeen, Becky Griffin, Monique Scrivener, Anita Talmey, Kirsty Evans, Julie Collins, Miss Clarke

CHRISTMAS FAYRE: We are still awaiting staff comments regarding the Fayre (Mrs Nicholson is aware) but most agree the Hall is too small a space for an entire school Fayre. It was suggested that in future we have discos by class; a vote was taken and all present agreed. This will be discussed further at a future meeting. Many parents/ carers were disappointed that the Fayre was held on a Friday after school but PTA members explained the decision was voted upon by those present at a Fayre planning meeting and was passed and there were too few volunteers to help set up, run and clean up after the event.

EVENT RESPONSIBILITY SHARING: The following members have volunteered to head up events such as: Cake Bakes- Kirsty Evans; Uniform Sales - Becky Griffin; Bag2School- Georgina Kermeen; Valentine’s Day event- Laurelei Dudley; Easter event- Becky Griffin, Georgina Kermeen, Monique Scrivener; Sports Day Refreshments- Christabel Holmes; Mufti Days- Rachel Johnson & Anita Talmey; Outside Fundraisers & Christmas Fundraiser- Heather Curtis

FUNDRAISING IDEAS- A Copper Drive will start on Monday, 28th January and will run for 3 weeks whereby each class collects as many copper coins and spends however much is raised on items for their classroom; the class that collects the most will also get a special prize from the PTA. Money will be tallied every Thursday by class reps and amounts reported in Friday assemblies to motivate the children to collect more. The idea of a voluntary direct debit monthly payment to the school was put forward; Christine Hall is to provide further information as to how it is done at St Bede’s. For Valentine’s fundraising it was proposed that the PTA ask for a £1 donation in exchange for a plant or flower (possibly grown from seed) in a decorated pot done by each child. The suggestion of an Easter Egg Hunt with picture clues for nursery and reception and written clues for all other classes was put forth. Becky volunteered to write clues and Georgina and Monique are to liaise with Miss Clarke who has volunteered Year 3 to take photos for the nursery and reception clues.

NEXT MEETING- Thursday 3rd February and will include discussion about class Wish Lists and releasing more money to the school for further purchases and upcoming fundraisers/ events.
